What is ultrasonic rhinoplasty?

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is essentially a nose job procedure that involves soundwave technology. With this approach, high-frequency ultrasound energy waves are emitted into the treatment areas to redefine the shape and contours of the nasal bones and cartilage. This method involves no conventional surgical equipment, such as chisels and rasps. This makes it a safer and more efficient treatment, as patients will experience less swelling, bleeding, and scarring.

Beyond that, this technique can be performed under general anesthesia either by way of open or closed rhinoplasty. Ultrasonic rhinoplasty gives patients the ability to achieve their goals without taking excessive trauma to the tissues surrounding the nose. The recovery period is short and there is minimal bruising.

Another consideration with ultrasonic technology is that its results are much more accurate and carefully executed than those of traditional instruments. This is simply due to the nature of the technology, which allows the practitioner to carefully monitor every step of the process.  Tools such as chisels and rasps are often more difficult to use, as fractures or splintering can arise due to blindly-made cuts.

What are the benefits of preservation rhinoplasty?

  • A more accurate and precise procedure
  • No chisels or rasps are required
  • A lower risk of complications and side effects
  • A much lower likelihood of trauma to the surrounding nerves and skin in the surrounding area
  • Minimal swelling and bruising
  • A lower risk of fractures
  • A less invasive procedure than traditional rhinoplasty
  • Stimulates bone regeneration
  • A quicker recovery phase
  • Less discomfort following the procedure than with traditional rhinoplasty
  • Real-looking results
  • A major boost in self-confidence

Who is a good candidate for ultrasonic rhinoplasty?

Basically, all patients who are unhappy with the size or projection of their noses can see great benefits from ultrasonic rhinoplasty. Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is designed to address various issues in the nose, including asymmetry, deviated septums, breathing issues, or issues regarding the nasal tip. It achieves these improvements without having any negative effect on the surrounding skin, making it an easy procedure with minimal downtime.

As with any surgical procedure, however, ideal candidates will:

  • Be of sound body and mind
  • Be free of any chronic medical conditions that could cause complications during the procedure or recovery process
  • Be non-smokers
  • Have realistic expectations for the results of the treatment

What can I expect from recovery?

Most patients experience some slight swelling and bruising around the eye area during the first week of recovery. Aside from that, many patients notice some nasal congestion, meaning that they will have to temporarily switch to mouth breathing for a time. Just like any other surgical procedure, patients are likely to feel very tired during the first few days. Rest and relaxation are vital during this time. That said, patients should make sure to stay in an upright position to help the swelling dissipate faster.

Generally speaking, ultrasonic rhinoplasty comes with a lighter, shorter recovery process than a traditional rhinoplasty procedure. Patients will need one full week of complete rest following their treatment. Strenuous activity, such as exercise, must be avoided for at least six weeks.

The final results of the procedure are usually perceivable by the 6-month mark following the treatment.
