Throughout history, people all over the world have struggled with skin issues such as acne. While the condition is often associated with puberty and adolescence, the truth is that acne can affect people of all ages. Fortunately, there are treatments available today that can mitigate the issue.

Dr. Halaas proudly provides her patients with AviClear, an effective new treatment that can address various forms of acne. AviClear is the first FDA-approved laser treatment for mild, moderate, and severe acne for all skin types. This safe and effective treatment has the ability to reduce existing acne while preventing future breakouts from happening.

What is AviClear?

AviClear is a light-based laser platform that can be used to treat all types of acne on all skin types and textures. The treatment involves no prescription medications or drugs and can achieve results in just a few sessions. Beyond that, it comes with far fewer side effects when compared to other acne protocols.

What are the benefits of AviClear treatments?

AviClear involves three treatment sessions that can effectively clear acne without causing any side effects. Its innovative technology works by homing in on the sebaceous gland and suppressing its activity. This has a major impact on acne formation.

Other noteworthy benefits of AviClear include:

  • Breakouts become more infrequent, last a shorter amount of time, and are less intense
  • Acne reduction gets increasingly better over time
  • A reduction in sebaceous gland activity that reduces active acne
  • No prescription medications or drugs are necessary
  • There is little pain or discomfort associated with the procedure

How should I prepare for AviClear treatments?

Prior to undergoing treatment with AviClear, patients need to download the Cutera app. Cutera is the manufacturer of AviClear, and their app tracks patients’ progress throughout the treatment process. Patients will have to ‘check in’ with a QR code before undergoing the procedure.

During the two weeks leading up to the procedure, patients should:

  • Avoid sun exposure, as well as tanning beds and any form of artificial tanning
  • Refrain from using any skin products that contain aggravating ingredients, such as tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc.
  • Avoid waxing and any other skin treatments that may irritate the skin
  • Discontinue the use of any acne medications and drugs (such as Accutane)

In order to prepare for the treatment, patients must take into account the following:

  • Patients with facial hair will have to shave on the day of the procedure
  • No skin products can be applied to the treatment area
  • Photos are taken of patients prior to the procedure in order to have a solid comparison of the results
  • Medical-grade acetone or isopropyl alcohol will be used to clean the face and rid it of excess oil
  • A wet gauze will be used to moisten the face prior to the procedure

AviClear aftercare

Results will start to become noticeable about 3-4 weeks after the patient’s last AviClear treatment and will gradually improve over time. Patients must follow the post-procedural instructions provided by their practitioner in order to achieve a satisfactory result.

Some post-procedural steps include:

  • Immediately following the procedure, a broad spectrum SPF 30+ is applied to the skin. This will need to be reapplied at least once a day following the treatment. Patients must also reapply it every ninety minutes when spending time outside.
  • Patients should keep sun exposure to a minimum throughout the treatment process.
  • Beginning the morning after the treatment, patients will need to wash their faces. with a gentle cleanser and use a moisturizer for at least seven to ten days.
  • Patients can start using makeup again on the first day following the treatment.
  • Skin irritants must continue to be avoided. This includes products that contain tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, and others.
  • Patients should limit any strenuous activity or exercise for at least 24 hours.
  • Avoid excess heat exposure, such as from saunas and hot tubs, for at least 48 hours.
  • Patients should avoid irritating skin treatments, such as waxing, for at least 2 weeks following the treatment.
