Will i have huge scaring or huge sores where the hair will be implanted after my procedure?
No. There will be some minor scabbing and crusting at the recipient sites during your healing process. With gentle cleansing, these usually go away with 8 days. These sites are made with tiny custom blades ranging in size from 0.6-0.9mm. Very few other hair transplant practices use such small blades to deliver such natural and dense results.
Will it look natural?
Yes. The days of hair plugs are over. Now, the hair is carefully dissected down to individual hair shafts, called follicular unit or micrografts. The individuals hairs are then placed in the area of thinning. The hairs look and grow looking the same as the surrounding hairs. The results are excellent.
How much hair do i need?
The donor hair should come from the back of the head where the hair tends to remain thicker. How much hair that is needed depends on the individual patient. Sometimes only a few hundred individual hair grafts can be used to make a thinning area appear denser. For patients who want to fill in a larger area, more than a thousand individual hair grafts can be used to create a very natural coverage.
What is the recovery time like?
For the first few days you may have some localized swelling. The tiny grafts will look like multiple little scabs covering the recipient area. The scabs will generally require one week before they disappear.
I’m a 35-year-old female, and i think i’m going bald! is that possible? and if so, is hair replacement an option for women, as well as men?
You may be surprised to know that it’s not all that unusual for women as well as men to experience noticeable hair loss. And yes, hair replacement is an option. So are several other remedies.
It all depends on why you are losing hair.
If it’s because of stress or a medical condition, you may find that your hair’s normal growth cycle will replace the hairs lost prematurely. You may also have to address the underlying stressful or medical condition before your normal hair growth cycle begins functioning again.
If, on the other hand, you have a condition called Female Pattern Hair Loss, which may be hereditary, you may notice an overall thinning of the hair that will leave larger areas of your scalp exposed as you age. In this case, you may benefit from products designed to minimize hair loss, stimulate new growth, or replace (transplant) hair in areas of your scalp that fail to replenish lost hairs.
I am a man in my late 40s and live in the westchester county suburbs in new york city. i have loss of hair density with overall thinning of my hair. i want to not only stop my ongoing hair loss but restore it as well. what solutions are available to achieve this outcome? i don’t want to go bald!!
There are basically two approaches to hair loss restoration, the non-surgical method and the surgical method.
I frequently recommend, when appropriate, topical minoxidil like Formula 82M or Propecia non-surgical methods initially. These products or hair re-growth stimulants can provide noticeable differences in hair density in a couple of weeks or months or even up to a year. It is important to note, however, that these products must be used on a continual basis because once they are stopped your hair restoration will also stop.
The surgical hair restoration method or hair transplant is the other approach you have available. With this, the hair follicles needed for transplant will most likely come from the back of your head. This is referred to as the donor area. Each hair follicle gathered will be carefully microscopically dissected and readied for placement on your scalp to restore the balding or thinning sections. A hair transplant is the most efficient and permanent method of restoring hair loss. It is, however, essential that you find a hair transplant surgeon who specializes in this process and is capable of giving you a natural appearing outcome. Best of luck in your endeavors!
I am an emergency parachute worker for law enforcement on call on a 24/7 basis in new york. when having hair transplant surgery when will i be able to return to my normal daily activities? i am a man 38 years of age.
Most likely your Doctor will ask you to refrain from any physical activity for up to two weeks after your procedure. Best to see your Doctor for clearance to return to work.
How effective are hair regrowth stimulants in preventing the need for a hair transplant? i am a man 43 years of age with a preference for medical rather than surgical treatment. i live in bronx county in new york state.
Once determining your degree of hair loss your Doctor can recommend the best preventative hair measures for you.
I am a 35-year-old woman who is a native new yorker with progressively thinning hair with loss of density particularly on the sides of my scalp. what can i do to stop this process before it becomes so obvious that i will need a hair transplant?
Your best course of action is to see a hair loss specialist that can assess your hair loss and determine what the cause of it is. There are many preventative measures that can be taken once determined.
I am a 29 year old individual in the male to female transgender process. i would like a natural-appearing feminine hair line. can this be accomplished with a hair transplant? i am currently residing in the lower east side of manhattan in new york.
Absolutely. Many transgender patients decide to undergo hair transplant procedures, whether it be hairline lowering, eyebrow transplant or facial and body hair transplants. A softer, Feminine hairline can surely be achieved with completely natural looking results.
I am a 32 year old woman in manhattan and have a very large forehead. is there any way to lower my hairline? it really bothers me.
You are not alone! Many women come to me looking for more information regarding a hairline advancement or a hairline lowering procedure. It is basically a hair transplant along the hairline. Assuming you have good “donor” hair (the hair we harvest from the back of the head to move forward), we would individually place follicular unit grafts, one by one, along the hairline, resulting in a natural, undetectable result. The skill level and experience of your surgeon are very important with any hairline work.
I am a 44 year old man in manhattan and considering a hair transplant. how long do they last?
Once a hair transplant is complete, the results will be permanent. A hair transplant is basically taking hairs from the back of the head which are less affected by DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) which is responsible for hair loss. Therefore those hairs will NOT fall out.
A friend told me that hair transplants aren’t an option for women because they only work for men with pattern baldness. is that true?
Yes and no. For a transplant to be successful, “donor hairs” need to be harvested from a region of the head that is resistant to going bald. On men, this is straightforward because some areas of the scalp are genetically programmed to resist DHT, the hormone that causes male pattern baldness. On women, there may not be any such area and there may not be any donor hairs that aren’t prone to the same problems causing the hair loss elsewhere on the head. That’s why it is so important for women experiencing thinning hair to get thoroughly evaluated by a physician to determine the cause of their hair loss.
Some women do experience the same balding pattern as men, and can have the same great response to hair transplant surgery. Women with thin or bald patches from burns, radiation therapy, trauma, or surgical scarring, like those left from facelifts that distort the hairline, are also good candidates for transplant surgery.
