What is Hair Restoration?

If you are struggling with hair loss, thinning hair, or shedding, hair restoration may be an excellent choice for your goals. Hair transplant is a procedure in which hair follicles are harvested from an area of the scalp where hair is plentiful – such as the back or sides – and then are implanted to provide coverage in areas where hair is sparse. After hair restoration in Westchester or NYC, you’ll be able to enjoy all your favorite hairstyles, activities, and sports. There are several different approaches available, such as FUT, FUE, and NeoGraft. Dr. Halaas will choose the best method for your unique goals, lifestyle, and comfort level.

Hair Restoration Cost

Pricing for hair restoration is based on the total number of hair follicles that are transplanted, so figures vary quite a bit from patient to patient. The procedure may cost anywhere from $4,000 to $12,000. Those who need to restore a small area of the scalp will have a lower financial requirement than those looking to replenish a whole head of hair, for instance. Our team will provide you with a personalized quote at the time of your in-depth consultation.

What causes hair loss?

Reasons for hair loss vary. Among many other causes, these reasons can include hormonal changes, diet, medications, stress, poor circulation, and genetics. Anyone that has experienced hair loss knows how frustrating and disheartening it can be. However, the good news is that if you’re not completely bald, hair rejuvenation options are available. The best hair transplant for your needs or other hair rejuvenation options is available at our NYC and Westchester offices. You can find out more from Dr. Halaas herself by contacting us today and scheduling a consultation.

What is the hair growth cycle?

The hair grows in a cycle, which is why you may see a delay in your hair restoration results. There are four stages of growth, with hair usually growing a quarter-inch per month.

Stage 1: Anagen

During this phase, a new hair shaft is formed. Around 90% of hair follicles are in the anagen stage at any given time.

Stage 2: Catagen

During this 2-week phase, the hair follicles are shrinking. The hair stops growing and begins separating from its blood supply.

Stage 3: Telogen

Here, the hair follicles are at rest. This period may last several months. Within the follicle, new hair is slowly forming. About 10-15% of hair follicles are in this phase at any given moment.

Stage 4: Exogen

In this final stage, the hair falls out. Normal hair loss is about 50-100 hairs within a 24-hour period. After this, the hair returns to its initial anagen phase, completing the cycle.

How does Dr. Halaas perform hair transplantation?

Hair transplantation surgery involves using the most advanced micro-graft techniques. Local anesthesia can be used, and any scarring that results is covered by the new hair growth. Whether you are losing hair on the back of your head, the top, or have a receding hairline, hair restoration surgery can help stimulate healthy, robust new hair growth. Dr. Halaas has helped many men and women restore their confidence with hair transplantation in NYC and Westchester.

Am I a Candidate For Hair Restoration Surgery in New York?

If you are concerned about hair loss and are just starting to notice a hairline that is receding, growing wider, or thinning, you may be excited to learn that hair restoration can reestablish your healthy locks and revitalize your self-image. For many NYC patients, hair restoration is a superior solution to embarrassing hairpieces and constantly wearing hats. Dr. Halaas will conduct a private consultation and examine your scalp, presenting you with a personalized action plan for improving your appearance.

What to expect in the consultation

During your initial consultation with Dr. Halaas, she will examine your scalp and go over the best hair transplant options for you. She will work with you to understand your aesthetic expectations so that she can match them to your medical history to create a viable plan, taking the time needed to take in your hair’s history and your personal goals to best understand where you will most benefit. Because sometimes other hair loss treatments go well with hair restoration surgery (including exosomes, platelet-rich plasma, vitamins, topicals, Keravive™, etc.), Dr. Halaas will also determine if these will work for your treatment plan.

What Can I Expect From My Recovery?

Dr. Halaas will provide you with detailed instructions after your hair restoration in NYC that you should follow to the letter to avoid any complications or discomfort. The total recovery time will be based on the method of hair renewal you choose. Most clients can return to work and other regular activities within a few days using only Tylenol for pain relief.

With FUT, or the strip method, clients will have sutures and will need to attend to their incisions post-op to ensure a seamless, natural-looking outcome. Some activities will be restricted for a few weeks, and you will need to avoid sleeping on your back. The incision at the back of the head may lead to a scar, but this can usually be covered with a longer hairstyle.

Hair Restoration FAQ

How many hair transplant sessions will I need?

The number of hair loss treatment sessions that you’ll need will depend on your current stage of hair loss and your aesthetic goals. For example, improving the appearance of a small bald patch will require fewer sessions than multiple areas of baldness.

When can I return to work?

After a hair transplant, most clients can return to work within 3-7 days. It will depend on the exact instructions you receive and on the method used to restore your hairline. Tiny scabs may form around the implanted hair follicles, but these tend to disappear within about a week or two. They are not typically visible enough to cause self-consciousness. Nevertheless, some patients may want to wait until the scabs are gone before returning to work or school.

Is it painful?

Before your procedure, you will receive a topical anesthetic to numb the treatment area. You will feel a slight prick in your scalp, but after that, there will be no pain involved. Throughout your session, your practitioner will continue to ensure you are completely comfortable and at ease.

Can women get hair restoration?

Hair restoration can benefit clients of all genders. If you are struggling with thinning hair, a receding hairline, shedding, or areas of complete hair loss, contact our office today to find out about your options for hair transplantation. Our strategic hair loss solutions can make you feel more vital and youthful, maximizing your self-confidence.
