What does upper eyelid surgery accomplish?

Upper eyelid surgery is one of Dr. Yael Halaas’s main services at her Westchester and NYC area practice. The procedure removes excess drooping skin and fat deposits that develop around the upper eyelids with age and creates a “resting face” that is exhausted, sad, or upset.

Upper blepharoplasty has the ability to:

  • Reduce puffiness in the upper eyelids
  • Restore the brightness and expression of the eyes
  • Improve the appearance of hooding on the upper eyelid
  • Tighten and firm drooping skin around the eyes
  • Lift excess skin to improve obscured vision
  • Create a more alert, youthful-looking appearance

Procedure details

Upper blepharoplasty in NYC generally takes about one hour and can be performed either under local anesthesia with sedation or local anesthesia, depending on patient preference. Dr. Halaas will make an incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid and will then trim exactly the right amount of skin and excess fat to get a beautiful-looking result. The incision will be hidden in a natural fold of the upper eyelid, leaving behind a well-concealed scar that is barely visible.

Recovery

Recovery is mild, with only slight bruising that subsides within 3-7 days. Patients may experience some swelling and bruising. The best way to limit this is to keep ice packs on your eyes for the first 2-3 days post-surgery. Patients will also need to avoid any strenuous activity for one week.

Dr. Halaas is a great doctor. My eyes were horrible — they were baggy and made me looked old and tired. After my first consultation with Dr. Halaas, I was positive she was the perfect doctor. My eyes now look amazing and now I feel so confident, happy, and young.
