Education and Training

Dr. Halaas’s path to becoming one of the nation’s leading female facial plastic surgeons began with her undergraduate studies in Art History at Columbia University, where she developed the aesthetic eye that continues to inform her surgical artistry today. She went on to earn her medical degree at Cornell University Medical College, graduating in the top ten percent of her class, joining the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, and receiving recognition from the American Medical Women’s Association for ranking among the top five percent of her peers.

She completed her general surgery internship and otolaryngology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where she now serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology. She then pursued advanced fellowship training through the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, refining her expertise in facial surgery's most complex and delicate areas.

Today, Dr. Halaas continues to share her knowledge by teaching residents at Einstein and lecturing other surgeons on innovations in injectable fillers, rhinoplasty, and facial rejuvenation techniques. Her lifelong commitment to education reflects her belief that advancing the field is inseparable from providing her patients the best care.

BEYOND THE PRACTICE

Dr. Halaas’s dedication to care extends far beyond her surgical practice. She serves as the New York City Director of the R.O.S.E. Fund, a national nonprofit empowering women who have broken the cycle of domestic violence. Additionally, she sits on the board of Reconstructing Hope, which provides reconstructive medical care for survivors. These roles reflect her lifelong commitment to using her skills to restore confidence, dignity, and healing.

Equally meaningful is her connection to family and community. A devoted mother, wife, and daughter, Dr. Halaas finds balance in time spent gardening, playing tennis, horseback riding, and skiing. In 2013, she and her husband were honored with a Congressional Recognition for Community Service, underscoring their shared dedication to giving back.

Her influence also spans the global medical community. Dr. Halaas frequently lectures across the United States and abroad — from Paris and Rome to Buenos Aires and Sydney — sharing insights on rhinoplasty, hair restoration, and emerging technologies.
