Nose surgery is one of Dr. Halaas’ specialties. She’s a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon in NYC who can achieve long-lasting, natural-looking results that match your face. Whether you want to correct a deviated septum, straighten a crooked nose, reduce nasal prominence, or smooth bumps, your concerns can be effectively addressed with rhinoplasty.
Recovery & Aftercare
Once your rhinoplasty procedure is complete, Dr. Halaas will place an external splint and tape over your nose to support its healing during the first week. You can expect swelling and bruising, particularly around the eyes. During this early phase, it’s important to keep your head elevated, even while sleeping, and to apply cold compresses around your nose and eyes to help reduce inflammation. Some patients worry because swelling can cause distortion or asymmetry during healing. Dr. Halaas will guide you through these normal stages and monitor your progress closely. With her expert oversight, you’ll understand what’s expected and when you can truly appreciate your final results.
- Week 1: You’ll return to the office for your splint removal and initial follow-up. Most of the significant swelling and bruising will begin to subside, though some puffiness may remain. Many patients are surprised by how quickly they feel ready to resume light daily activities.
- Week 2: Most patients feel comfortable returning to sedentary work or school. Subtle bruising may persist but is often easy to conceal with makeup.
- Weeks 3–4: You should still avoid strenuous physical activity or exercise, as these can disrupt healing. Swelling continues to resolve gradually.
- Months 2–3: Swelling becomes less noticeable, and the shape of your nose starts to refine. Some minor asymmetries or unevenness may still be present but are usually temporary.
- 6–12 Months: While significant changes are visible within a few months, your nose will continue to settle into its final shape. The tip, in particular, often takes the longest to fully refine. You may notice subtle improvements in contour even after the first year.
