New York Facelift Surgery

Written by Dr. Halaas

Facial plastic surgeon Yael Halaas, M.D. has developed a special facelift technique that uniquely addresses her patients’ most common concerns. A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is the third most frequent facial plastic surgery procedures performed in the United States.

Everyone has to contend with visibly aging facial skin. Along with the natural loss of elasticity, people will experience issues like wrinkles and crow’s feet around the eyes. The sun also does a lot of damage to the skin, as does smoking, and some people also inherit facial skin problems. As we age, our skin also begins to sag around the face and neck. Unfortunately, these signs of aging are an inevitable part of life. Deciding to get a facelift, gives people a boost in confidence and appearance. Dr. Halaas has advanced technology, a scarless facelift technique and is excited to help you begin your journey to a more youthful appearance. Our New York City Facelift can turn back the hands of time, erase wrinkles and tighten loose folds for a rejuvenated, younger face.

What is a Facelift?

A facelift by Dr. Halaas is tailored to your areas of concern. From a mini facelift that can target the neck, the cheeks, or the jawline to a full facelift, her surgical skills and eye for aesthetics allow her to remove signs of gravity and aging. In surgery, she does not only nip and tuck the skin but repositions deeper muscle tissues back to their original place to make sure her facelift results last for many years. Scars are minimized, hidden in the hairline and behind/inside the ear.

Main Facelift Types

When performed by the experienced hands of Dr. Yael Halaas, your New York City facelift manipulates the underlying structures of facial tissue and muscle to:

Mini Facelift

Performed under local anesthesia. Results often look very natural because Dr. Halaas will make small, targeted improvements rather than large changes. From 2005 to 2008, Dr. Halaas opened the NYC office of Lifestyle Lift and performed hundreds of these procedures, while creating and perfecting her own Local Lift.

The Local Lift ® involves doing less than a full facelift, yet it can provide excellent results. The procedure involves fewer risks than traditional face-lifts. The procedure can be customized to elevate sagging cheek fat pads, decrease facial lines and wrinkles, tighten the neck muscles, or address the sagging skin, under local anesthesia.

Full Facelift

Addresses all of the face and neck, from mid face through the neck. The most common type of facelift, this addresses skin laxity, wrinkles, fine lines and excess fat under the chin.

Mid Facelift

Addresses mid face down to the chin. This is for a younger patient or the patient that has maintained elasticity in the neck and does not have excess fat below the chin.

Robot Facelift

In the past years, dermal fillers such as Restylane®, Perlane® and Juvederm® have become tremendously popular. Offering the best NYC liquid facelift, Dr. Halaas can soften the slightest to the deepest lines, such as the nasolabial folds running from your nose to the corners of your mouth. Other popular uses are to augment thinning lips, fill facial depressions and restore that vibrant, youthful fullness to the cheeks and under eye area known as the tear trough.

“The Robot Facelift using the Artiste machine allows me to create a smooth, painless liquid facelift with incredible detail and finesse -like painting with a finely controlled, delicate paintbrush,” Dr. Halaas said.

The benefits of the Artiste™ assisted Robot Facelift include:

  • Greater comfort. The Artiste™ System makes it possible for Dr. Halaas to use smaller needles.
  • Ability to fill smaller and shallower wrinkles. The smaller needles make it possible to correct wrinkles that would otherwise be too small to fill manually.
  • Less bruising.
  • Less waste. Fillers are expensive and using the Artiste™ makes the amount of filler go further.
  • Consistent results.

Necklift

While not technically a facelift, a neck lift primarily addresses the skin and fat under the chin but can often time tighten the skin along with the jowls lending a taut appearance to the lower face.

Anesthesia & Pain During A Facelift

Unlike traditional facelift procedures, Dr. Halaas’ techniques usually do not require full anesthesia. Patients take Valium to ensure they will not feel any pain during the surgery. Like in a dental office, local shots numb the jawline and neck areas. You will stay awake during the procedure and if you feel any discomfort, additional sedation will be given to you. Twilight anesthesia is also available from our board-certified anesthesiologists in our AAAASF accredited surgical facility.

Risks Associated With A Facelift

As with any surgery, there are possible risks and complications that may result from surgery. During your facelift consultation in her NYC office, Dr. Halaas will discuss complications such as bruising, excess bleeding and anesthesia risks.

Recovery After A Facelift

Dr. Halaas puts an emphasis while in surgery and in her post-op instructions on quickening the recovery time for her patients. All procedures are performed by Dr. Halaas in her NYC accredited surgical facility. Patients go home the same day with homeopathic prescription to reduce swelling and bruising. NYC facelift patients are seen by Dr. Halaas the next day. She will provide you with a light face wrap that needs to be worn for a week. You can wear your hair down and go back to work once the wrap can be taken off. All stitches are removed within 10-14 days.

Results After A Facelift

The final results of a facelift vary as there are several factors to consider – the type of facelift, the extent of correction necessary and the patient’s compliance during the healing process. In general, following facelift surgery in New York, patients are highly satisfied with the final outcome. For women and men after 40, expect to age naturally following a facelift with Dr. Halaas, without getting a weird or pooled look.

A Note For Men Who Consider A Facelift

For men, it is important that the facelift is done carefully and is designed to keep and enhance their face’s masculine features. Dr. Halaas, for example, can recommend combining your facelift with neck liposuction to remove fatty deposits under the chin. Some male patients are offered a small chin implant to create a strong, youthful appearance, which can be done during the same procedure.

FAQ About Facelifts

Q Which areas are targeted with a facelift?

Nowadays a facelift can mean many things. In all facelifts, Dr. Halaas treats facial muscle, skin, and fat. A traditional facelift involves removing the excess skin around the jowls, creating a smoother, more taut look to the face and neck, as well as improving the overall appearance. Tightening the soft tissue of the face reverses the effects of gravity and restores a youthful contour. A good facelift enables your appearance to match your energetic attitude.

More importantly, a traditional facelift does not include the eyes, eyebrows, and forehead. Today, targeted facelifts can mean rejuvenation of isolated areas. These targeted facelifts can mean less downtime and can be broken down to the “cheek lift”or the “neck lift”. When deciding between the procedures, consider with Dr. Halaas which areas need attention and how much downtime can be tolerated.

Q Will my facelift results look natural?

After a full physical examination of your face and in-depth consultation, Dr. Halaas will recommend a combination of procedures to create the right surgical plan for your face. Today most patients want the natural look and that means treating the face on many different levels. Aging in the face results from skin, muscle and fat changes and addressing each of them individually results in a natural look.

Q Does a facelift hurt?

Actually, not really. Unlike chest or belly surgery where you can’t help, but move the incision every time you breathe or laugh, facial surgery is not really painful. Most patients will complain about the swelling and bruising but most do not report pain.

Q How long will I be bruised?

Bruising is most severe in the first two weeks with a dramatic improvement over the few weeks. In our practice, we encourage the patient to use a homeopathic regimen that we have found very effective in shortening recovery time.

Q What skin tightening treatments can be combined with a facelift?

An open & honest conversation with facial plastic surgeon Dr. Halaas is incredibly important. Many New York facelift patients opt to undergo several procedures at once. Sometimes the sagging cheeks & early loose jowls can be corrected with volume replacement, better known as injectable fillers. As we age, we lose fat & volume from where we would like it & seem to collect where we don’t! Fuller, higher cheeks are youthful and early jowls can be “hidden” with a small amount of filler.

Technology is always evolving. New laser and radiofrequency devices may also help with skin laxity. Share your concerns with Dr. Halaas and consider together different options to find the best treatment for your skin.

Q Do you have any facelift before & after photos?

We know that seeing proof of the doctor’s past work is very important. Our patients, who we greatly value, have shared their photos with us. Dr. Halaas strives to perform the very best facelift New York has to offer. Please look through our photo gallery to see facelift before & after photos.
