I am 18 and considering rhinoplasty. I’m wondering, how does the surgeon know what nose shape will look most natural and fit my face? Does the surgeon take into consideration face shape or follow a mathematical rule like length-times-width?

To find the perfect fit of the perfect nose when performing a rhinoplasty, it takes experience and lots of artistic skill as a facial plastic surgeon. However, some rules do apply like the “rules of beauty” and guidelines based on aesthetic principle. There are average angles and measurements that exist which create guidelines on how the nose appears on the face. This knowledge of natural measurements along with artistry, skill, and experience offer the best results. Computer imaging can illustrate these principles to you when you discuss this with your surgeon in the consultation.
