Yes, sideburn hair restoration is possible! Hair is taken from the back or side of the scalp and transplanted meticulously into place for sideburns. The donor area depends on the texture and color of the hair you desire for placement. How long will I have to take off work in order to get a hair transplant?
Answer:
Your hair transplant recipient areas should heal quickly within seven to ten days. You can return to work the day after hair transplant surgery, however the micro incisions on your scalp will be pink and will start to form scabs. If you have enough previous hair there should be adequate camouflage for the new transplants.
Will I be awake during the hair transplant procedure?
Answer:
Yes, unless with rare and extreme cases, all hair transplant procedures are done with a local anesthetic. You will be entirely awake and alert the whole time. The main complaint patients have is with the small pinch felt from the initial injection of the local anesthesia. The entire scalp area will be numb during the procedure and you should not be in any pain.
Are there any non-surgical treatments or effective medications I can take to further prevent hair loss?
Answer:
Propecia is a prescription oral medication that works to block the DHT hormone in the scalp that contributes to hair loss. Minoxidil, or more commonly known as the over-the-counter topical treatment Rogaine, works in the same way as Propecia to prevent hair loss and promote hair regrowth. Low-level laser light therapy is also a painless way to decrease hair loss and improve hair thickness and volume. By using a cold laser, multiple treatments deliver energy to the scalp, which stimulates hair follicles, increases blood supply, and stops the advancement of hair loss. Yes, facial hair transplantation is possible. Micrografts of one or two hairs are removed from the donor site on the side or back of the scalp. You will require a large number of follicular units to reestablish full hair density but if your donor area is stable and dense, this is possible. However, these donor hairs are limited and need to be wisely conserved for further transplantation to offset future hair loss, as needed. Full hair transplantation to the crown and frontal area of your head will most likely take a couple of sessions, but with enough patience and time we can achieve natural looking results.
